PT Cable Detection & Mapping – Bridge Deck
ACUO Structural Insights Ltd recently completed a specialist structural investigation and concrete scanning survey on a world-renowned bridge deck, where precision and accuracy were critical to the success of the refurbishment works being carried out by a Tier 1 contractor.
Using advanced Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) combined with 3D Augmented Reality concrete scanning technology, our team successfully located and mapped the post-tensioned cables embedded within the bridge deck structure. These critical structural elements required precise identification before any intrusive works could take place.
The refurbishment programme required drilling and modification works within the bridge deck, meaning the contractor could not risk damaging post-tension cables, structural reinforcement or embedded infrastructure that are essential to the bridge’s structural integrity.
Through detailed scanning and analysis, ACUO was able to accurately identify, map and mark the exact locations of post-tension cables with centimetre-level accuracy. The results were presented through 3D augmented reality visualisation and clear on-site mark-outs, allowing the contractor to confidently carry out their works without risk to the structure.
This project demonstrates how advanced concrete scanning and non-destructive testing (NDT) can significantly reduce risk when working on complex infrastructure such as bridges, tunnels and major structural assets.
By combining GPR structural scanning, augmented reality visualisation and detailed reporting, ACUO provided the Tier 1 contractor with the critical structural intelligence required to safely progress refurbishment works within the bridge deck.
